About the Name

Sound Exile started as a co-op  between  a violinist, a guitarist and a percussionist who all write original music and an  accomplished carpenter/ engineer who all found common ground working with each other.  I handled the technical end of the production work and as music lover was glad to just be in the presence of great musicians.

People moved on to other projects but my desire remains to be in the company of great musicians and to capture their performance as accurately as possible.

It is with this passion that I have opened my door to those that I would be able to provide the best service to.

The Heart of Sound Exile

At the “heart” of Sound Exile Studios is a music lover controlling a Tascam DM– 24 feeding into a  Mark of the Unicorn 2408 Mk3.  Using Cubase SX 2 software on a custom PC, audio can be recorded at resolutions from 44.1 KHz thru 192 KHz at 16 to 32 bit in all formats from .aiff to .wav.  Once recorded, audio can be manipulated in any manner that the musician desires or requires.

The Tascam DM-24 feeds 16 channel directly into the MOTU 2408 and 8 analog preamps

allow 24 channels of audio recording at a time.

In addition to recording raw material, editing, enhancing and mastering can all be done right here.

There are several different options available to take rough audio and carve it into a finished piece.

“In the Box”. The term refers to manipulating all the audio within the computer itself.  The Studio has at its disposal several different software programs to finalize your audio.  Plug-ins by Waves, I K Multimedia, Sonic Foundry and Izotope can significantly improve an already good sounding piece of audio material. Either Wavelab or Sound Forge can be employed to put the final polish on your work. CD Architect will print the final selections to a disc to Red Book Standards (the same as any commercially available disc).

“Out of the Box”. Refers to routing audio back out to a mixer and handled the “old fashioned way” of mixing down to a 2 track machine which can also be done here. The Tascam has recall and mix capability to allow me to use this method if needed.

Exile Studios is really geared for smaller groups of about 6 players,  but we can expand if necessary to fit more comfortably.  At the current time I can send 4 separate headphone mixes to 12 players.  There is a drum kit available that is tuned and sounds great for just about any type of music.  Arrangements can be made for additional players on any instrument you can think of for any project that you can dream up. We maintain a list of musicians that can read or improv as the project dictates.
